Let us assume all of those standing on first shore. Then the transport would take place in this manner.

• Policeman and thief go first, policeman comes back.
• Policeman and first son goes and policeman with thief comes back.
• Father and second son goes and father comes back.
• Mother and father goes and mother comes back.
• Policeman and thief goes father comes back.
• Father and Mother goes , mother comes back.
• Mother and first daughter goes , policeman and thief comes back.
• Policeman and second daughter goes, policeman comes back.
• Policeman and thief goes.

All people have reached other shore now.
